An AI logo generator costs a few euros and takes thirty seconds. A professional designer costs more and takes longer. So why do businesses still hire designers? Let’s break it down honestly, without pretending one option is perfect.

What AI logo generators actually do well

They are fast and very cheap. If you need a placeholder logo for a weekend project or a very early test of a business idea, they can get you something usable in minutes. For businesses with almost no budget and no long term brand ambition, that speed has real value.

Where they fall short

They are trained on existing logos. This means the output is  a remix of what already exists. Ask ten people to generate a logo for a coffee brand and you will get ten variations of the same cup icon in a circle. Your logo becomes visually interchangeable with hundreds of other businesses using the same tool.

No strategy behind the shapes. A logo generator does not know your competitors, your target audience or what makes your business different. It picks visuals based on keywords, not on brand positioning. A real designer starts with the question: what does this business need to communicate, and to whom?

Files and usage rights get messy. Many free or cheap generators do not deliver proper vector files, or they restrict commercial use unless you pay more later. Businesses often find this out only once they need to print something large or send files to a manufacturer.

No system, just a mark. A logo alone is not a brand. You still need to decide on colors, typography, how the logo behaves on dark backgrounds, on packaging, on a website header. AI tools rarely deliver that full system, so businesses end up making inconsistent choices project by project.

What a real designer adds

I start every branding project by understanding the business first, not by picking a template. That means talking through your market, your audience and what you want people to feel when they see your brand. From there I build a logo that is actually yours, along with a full visual identity: color palette, typography, guidelines your whole team can follow.

I also stay involved after delivery. I guide clients through the print process, explain how to use files correctly online, and keep a lifelong file archive so nothing gets lost if a laptop dies five years from now. An AI tool cannot do any of that.

So which one is right for you?

If you need a quick placeholder and have zero budget, an AI generator can bridge the gap for now. If you are building a business you actually plan to grow, a logo generated by an algorithm trained on your competitors’ logos is a risky foundation.
